Set Up an Inventory Client
App path: Inventory Hub
Use this scenario when a client has physical goods, stock movements, warehouses, manufacturing, batch/expiry tracking, or inventory-dependent close work.
Goal
Inventory is scoped to the right client/entity, stock items are configured, warehouses are usable, and inventory signals can reach close and review workflows.
Industry profile checklist
- Open Inventory Hub.
- Open Setup in the Inventory Hub sidebar.
- Choose the profile that matches the client:
- Service - no inventory defaults;
- Distributor - stock movement and warehouse defaults;
- Manufacturer - BOM, work order, and WIP defaults;
- Cannabis-adjacent - packaging, distribution, batch/expiry, COA, quarantine, recall, and 280E inventory controls;
- Cultivation - plant-touching workflow only when the client needs plant batches, rooms, harvests, lab tests, destruction logs, and METRC-style tracking.
- Save the profile only after confirming it matches the client's real operations.
Inventory setup checklist
- Confirm the selected client and entity.
- Review imported items.
- Convert relevant service items into stock items.
- Assign default warehouses.
- Enable batch or expiry tracking only when the client needs it.
- Confirm stock balances.
- Review exceptions for low stock, negative stock, COA, slow-moving inventory, NRV, and close gate blockers.
Close integration checklist
- Open Manage Close for the client.
- Confirm inventory gate signals appear when the client has inventory activity.
- Resolve inventory blockers before generating the financial package:
- negative stock;
- missing batch/expiry data;
- COA issues;
- NRV write-downs;
- slow-moving reserve candidates.
- Document overrides when a reviewer decides the issue does not block the close.
What good looks like
- Service clients do not receive inventory or cannabis defaults.
- Inventory clients show real item and warehouse counts, not stale zeros.
- Inventory exceptions have friendly labels and next actions.
- Cannabis-adjacent compliance fields are saved with the client and appear in the workflows that use them.
- Inventory close signals reach the accounting close, not only the inventory page.
