Autonomy & Safety
This page answers a practical question: what Kraal will post, and who it will contact, without asking you.
The principle is on How Kraal earns autonomy. This page is what Max, Assisted, and Pause mean for posting and for contacting people.
Max and Assisted
Each client is on Max or Assisted. You choose the setting from Firm Settings → Autonomy controls, or on the client's What Kraal may do on its own page. There is no Manual setting, and there is no Minimal or Controlled setting.
Max. Kraal does the routine accounting. It prepares, reconciles, catches problems, drafts entries, answers questions, and posts routine work within the rules your firm sets. Each action has a receipt.
A person still takes the judgment calls and the higher-risk steps. That includes a closed period, moving money, locking a period, and the first contact with a new recipient.
Assisted. Kraal still prepares, reconciles, catches problems, drafts entries, and answers. It does not change the books, and it does not contact anyone, until a person approves. Those drafts wait in the Inbox.
Pause
Pause stops all new automatic work at once. You can pause one client or the whole firm, from Firm Settings → Autonomy controls or on that client's What Kraal may do on its own page. It applies on Max and on Assisted. Anyone on the team can pause. Turning the work back on does not replay approvals that were already waiting. Who can turn it back on is on Team, Roles & Permissions.
What waits for a person
The line between routine work and a step that needs the rules or a person is on How Kraal earns autonomy.
On either setting, paying or releasing money does not happen on its own, and neither does locking or reopening a period. Ask Kraal does not post from the conversation. A draft it prepares waits in the Inbox for a person.
For money going out, and for locking a period, the person who submits the item is not the person who approves it.
Contacting people
On Assisted, Kraal does not contact the client. The draft waits until a person approves.
On Max, contact outside the firm needs the rules or a person. When the close needs something only the client can provide, Kraal drafts the request and leaves it in the Inbox, under Needs you. Open the row to approve or reject it. Nothing has reached the client until someone approves.
Approvals waiting on you
Open the item in the Inbox and use the action on that item. A period lock is signed there, under Signatures. Lock the books for this period sends the request. Clicking it does not lock the books.
Who approves
The old Minimal and Controlled rules tables are gone. Max and Assisted are the settings, and Pause is the stop. Who may act for the firm is on Team, Roles & Permissions.
How a kind of work becomes automatic
Period locks and close
When a period is locked, Kraal does not post into it until a person reopens it. Locking and reopening both need a person.
A completed close is not locked
On the client's close, Lock the books for this period does not lock the books by itself. It sends a request to sign. The period is locked when that request is signed in the Inbox. Until then, the period is not locked, even if the close work is complete.
Receipts
Every action leaves a receipt. Receipts is the audit trail, and the activity log shows what was done and why. What Kraal posted can be reviewed and undone.
